Because of its geographic location within the border triangle of Austria, Slovenia and Italy, the region 'Villach-Warmbad / Faaker See / Ossiacher See' has a mild climate as well as a broad cultural and culinary diversity paired with a Southern European air and cordial people. Its many mountains and lakes offer a vast spectrum of leisure activities.
Gerlitzen, Verditz and Villacher Alpe (Dobratsch), the three major mountains of the region, are a neverending hikers’ paradise. In summer, visitors may alternatively do (tandem-)paragliding, summer tobogganing and mountainbiking amongst much more, in winter skiing.
The lakes Ossiacher See and Faaker See allow all kinds of water sports, especially in summer, be it sailing, kayaking or surfing and swimming. On the lakefronts tourists and locals mingle on the specially constructed tracks for Nordic Walking or running, play golf or simply relax in one of the hotels or the Villacher ThermenResorts in Warmbad-Villach.
Last but not least, the region offers various cultural events such as festivals, theater plays or traditional folk festivals and also specializes specifically in family vacations with adventurous holidays on family farms or camp sites.
